STEP 1. Run a switch-off campaign

Energy savings can be made in your office simply by turning lights off when an area is not in use.

• Educate the staff about the benefits of making energy savings and how to achieve the greatest economies.
• Clarify whose job it is to turn lights off and make it easy for them to do so.
• Give staff regular feedback about savings made.

Step 2. Make a lighting efficiency improvement plan

• Perform an initial lighting power-density survey and identify opportunities.
• Identify and implement low-cost methods of improving your lighting performance.
• Consider higher cost options for lighting system power density improvement; implement if appropriate.

Step 3. Investigate automatic lighting control

• After implementing steps 1 and 2 establish what opportunities exist for making further energy savings by using automatic lighting controls.
• Install automatic lighting controls if suitable.
